Broken Alliance: The Survivors
The dark and clouded sky gave little revelation on the quiet of the battlefield. The once proud and strong legions of Gondor and Rohan were reduced to a valley of corpses, a graveyard of men - soldiers, and some even so unequipped to be called a warrior... and even their steeds. The once green fields were trampled, scorched black by the burning of those still alive that commenced somewhere later in the battle. All that was left now were the precious few who survived.
Rowen looked frantically for Byron. She couldn’t see him, not anywhere. They had been separated again - d*mn Rohan, and their worthless thugs. d*mn the war. d*mn them all to hell...
She saw it coming. He was still young - just a boy, in her eyes. He didn’t belong in a war. If she could just rewind the last few days, and whacked him up the back of his head when he readily decided to go to war. There was nothing more she wanted to do than that.
Lord knew she couldn’t.
Why did he want to go so? He didn’t live in Gondor any longer - not for years. They belonged on the road, in the woods, training in the art of theft. He was her life’s work. Her only chance to make something better than herself. And one of the precious few she gave a d*mn about.
Could the past years have been a waste? A waste of time, a waste of effort - if he didn’t make it through that battle, that was the only conclusion she could come to.
She found him - he was on the ground - what in blazes was he doing on the ground?
“Byron,” she asked of him, for the first time in years, showing true signs of fear. But fear meant weakness... she didn’t care anymore.
When he tried to speak, she hushed him, genuflecting by his side.
“Help,” she called to the barathrum. “Gondor, Rohan, I don’t care!”
She inspected his wounds - they were deep.
“Saphire,” she asked hopefully.
Hope... what was that?
“Is anyone there,” she asked. If she was the only one that made it, she’d never forgive herself.
She looked to her left, then to her right. There were a few - so few survivors. There were a many marching people in the background - it was too far to tell who they were, and by their speed, she’d be long gone before they made a difference.
But she couldn’t leave. She just couldn’t.
As the legion came closer, she found she did not recognize their flags. She remained planted. She wasn’t leaving without Byron.

The dwarf stood there in tears.
"What have I done?" he cried. He sank to his knees, now bawling. "I have killed those whom did not deserve it. I am a murderer. I did not deserve to make it out of this war alive." It was then that, through his tears, he saw the strange flags. He did not know what to do.

Rowen looked up at the dwarf with empty eyes - the one she tried to kill earlier. Her muscles tightened - a drive to kill brought back into her mind - but she couldn't. It wasn't important enough - not like it was before. She turned back to Byron - she had to get him out of there. But she didn't know how.

Theredor decided to stand up. He had to do good this day rather than just wrongs.
"Who are you?" he called to them as they drew closer.
There was no answer.
"I SAID, 'Who are you?', d*mn IT!" he shouted, now filled with anger at himself.
Rowenna
07-17-2004, 11:14 AM
"What does it matter," Rowen yelled in a more desperate voice than she intended. "Gondor, Rohan, Isendgard, who cares?! We're all going to die anyway.."
As Rowen looked up at the approaching army, one of them shot an arrow, missing her, and landing in the ground beside her.
"Ah hell," she muttered under her breath.
ieatglue44
07-17-2004, 11:19 AM
"You bastards," said Theredor. "You dare attempt to kill those tending to their belovéd? I will d*mn you to hell if you come one step closer to her."
One of them reared their horse, in an attempt to charge, and Theredor nearly split the horse in half. It fell, and then he killed who was riding it.
Rowenna
07-17-2004, 11:21 AM
Did the fool think he stood a change against an entire army?
"C'mon, Byron," Rowen said, heaving him up. He was wounded badly - d*mn, if they only had a horse. That seemed near impossible at the moment.
ieatglue44
07-17-2004, 11:40 AM
The whole army halted for a moment. Theredor decided to run back as fast as possible. He ran over to Rowen, defending her, whether she had tried to kill him or not.
Rowenna
07-17-2004, 09:58 PM
"I don't need your protection, god d*mn it. I need..."
She couldn't say it - she couldn't say she needed help. She never asked for assistance before, and it was more difficult to start than one would realize.
"We need to get the hell out of here, is what we need."
The army was still far enough to make some sort of escape - Byron was leaning on her bad shoulder. She winced at the pain, knowing full well there was nothing she could do about it. The attempt to get moving seemed futile.
ieatglue44
07-18-2004, 05:30 AM
"The army may be far enough to get three feet further, not much more than that," said Theredor.
He wanted to help...but he didn't know if he could or how he could.
Rowenna
07-18-2004, 10:39 AM
"Yeah, maybe if we had a horse," Rowen said, clearly out of breath.
No... it wasn't the time to argue. They had to leave, now. In what way they would accomplish this, she had no idea.
ieatglue44
07-18-2004, 10:49 AM
"I've only a pony," said Theredor. "Not even enough for two full size people." Then he saw the same elf that had saved his life. He was no longer on a horse, but Theredor had an idea. "Henrogene!" he called to the elf. The elf looked up at him and smiled at him weakly, a tear rolling down his cheek. "Come here! And hurry!"
Henrogene the elf ran quickly toward them. "What is it?" he asked.
"I would like you to healed a horse like you healed me," said Theredor.
"I would...if any were still alive," said the elf.
It was lucky that just then Theredor saw a horse twitching on the ground. "Over there!" said Theredor. Henrogene looked at the horse and ran to it, it was not far away. Theredor watched as Henrogene waved his hands over the horse's wound. It was healed. It stood up and neighed at Theredor, for he was the one who had attempted to kill it. "Woah, easy boy," he said.
One horse. But Theredor saw no more. He said to Rowen, "You take this horse and get out of here."
Rowenna
07-18-2004, 11:13 AM
Oh yeah, heal the horse.
"C'mon, Byron," Rowen said, getting him on the horse. The searing pain in her shoulder didn't stop when he was up. She herself leapt on the horse, and she looked to the dwarf.
"Is there anyone else," she asked, biting down the pain.
ieatglue44
07-18-2004, 11:36 AM
"I see no one else," said Theredor, looking around the plains.
"I'm sorry I could not heal you two," said Henrogene. "Your wounds are too deep for my skill of healing."
Then Henrogene's pupils disappeared: he was having a vision of the future. The vision was of this: Rowen was riding the horse when a member of the strange legion came to her side and killed the horse. Theredor rode up on his pony and just about the man was going to shoot an arrow through Rowen's head, Theredor jumped off his pony. The arrow pierced his shoulder deeply. He gave a cry of pain and with a last effort, killed the man riding the horse. The vision ended.
"Go now!" Henrogene told Rowen.

Every bit of it That is how much Lerris watched, everything. He watched as Rowen searched for Byron, found him half dead and found the dwarf. Another elf came and Lerris had to fight the urge to greet him, he stood atop the large hill he had killed from with the bow during the battle. The wind blew hard as he watched, almost knocking him from his position. He smiled as the wind came, as if blowing away this battle of men.....Something was wrong and Lerris could not see it, but he felt it. So he stood, and watched.....
Rowenna
07-18-2004, 12:26 PM
Rowen paused as the elf told her to leave. She nodded once, and sped off in the direction of the woods. Before she got there, she stopped to see Saphire, just standing there.
"Why are you just standing there," Rowen said, her breath shallow. They were coming... whoever 'they' was, she couldn't stop them.
Ragnar Sten
07-18-2004, 12:33 PM
Lerris never really looked down at Rowen, he just watched whatever he was watching, he supposed it was "they." He slowly slipped the quiver of arrows off his shoulder, laying it down beside the bow he had gripped in his hand. He said something in muffeled elvish, and pulled his black staff from the ground. Finally his eyes fell upon Byron and Rowen. He sighed and lept down beside the horse, he looked up at Rowen and took a deep breath. "Where do you plan on taking him?"
Rowenna
07-18-2004, 12:37 PM
"I don't know," she shook her head. The horse shifted nervously. She didn't know what she was going to do, she didn't know where it was she was going - just that she was going. "Why? Do you... do you have any bright ideas?"
ieatglue44
07-18-2004, 01:42 PM
"Ya scared me fer a moment there," said Theredor.
"Scared you?" asked Henrogene. "How?"
"Yer pupils disappeared and were swallowed up by yer green eyes," he said.
"I...have the ability of foresight," he told the dwarf reluctantly.
"Well!" said Theredor, surprised. "What did ya see?"
"I have not the heart to tell you, my friend," said Henrogene.
"Fine," said Theredor. He walked over to his pony and rode it back to Henrogene. "If you will not tell me, I will leave."
Henrogene hesitated. "I cannot tell you. It will alter the future into one that should not happen."
Theredor understood what he meant, so he leapt off his pony.
Rowenna
07-18-2004, 05:14 PM
"d*mn it, do you or don't you know where I can take him?"
The sounds of the legion were loud in her ears.
"Never mind," she growled, riding away, into the wood. She made the false assumption she was safe, and stopped. Her pulse was racing as she nervously looked about.
ieatglue44
07-18-2004, 06:31 PM
It was then that Henrogene's vision was executed in reality. A horse of the legion, with a human rider, rode up beside Rowen. He slashed her horse and killed it. Theredor screamed in anger, and began riding toward the three. The member of the legion drew his bow and was going to shoot Rowen in the head, and Byron next, when Theredor decided he wasn't going to make it. He stood up on his horse and leapt between them. The man shot the arrow just as Theredor was between the two. It pierced his shoulder, just as it had in Henrogene's vision, and with his last bit of strength, Theredor killed the man.

Rowen didn't have time to react - it was all too d*mn fast. No one had ever done that for her. No one. She caught her breath, not knowing what to do. She couldn't fight anymore.
"Saphire, god-dammit, help!."
There. She said it. She didn't know what to do anymore... But she did intend to make it out alive.

Henrogene ran to Theredor. He had to heal him. He checked the wound-no, it was too deep, and he had all ready used a lot of his power that day. Henrogene quickly tended to Theredor. He felt helpless-there was nothing he could do.
...but then he saw Lerris, and wondered if he had the same power.
He called to him, "Help! My friend is in need, hurry!", which was of course, a more pleasant way of what Rowen had said.

(((ahhhh man, I wanted to save Rowen...blast..lol))))
Lerris knelt down next to the dwarf and the elven male. He inspected the wounds carefully, and frowned. "He is hurt....bad.." Lerris said stating the obvious, "I'm not sure if there is anything I can do..I will try..." Lerris brought his staff around to his side, which was now giving off a slight heating sensation. He placed one hand on the dwarfs apposing shoulder, and gripped the arrow...slowly he pulled....His hands now giving off the same feeling as the staff..
((Hmmm elven magic....I never thought Lerris to be one to use it..)))

"Is he," Rowen began, but did not finished. She was nervous, that was plain. "We can't stay," she said finally, clutching the reins of the horse. "There are more of them. A lot more."

07-18-2004, 08:19 PM
Lerris slowly brought out the arrow and tossed it aside, he now went to work on patching up the wound....minutes seemed to pass like days as the elven man worked, finally he could do no more...He stood picked up his staff, almost burning his hand from the heat it gave, he slowly lifted his head and looked to Rowen, whom still seemed nervous, as she should be..as they all should be.

(i just realized the horse was dead... hmm..)
"Can we get a move on," Rowen said, getting on her feet, supporting Byron wearily. They had to leave... if they didn't, it didn't matter if Byron braved the storm, they'd all be dead anyway.
She took a step back - at least she could be thankful she was using her stronger arm, but nevertheless, he was d*mned heavy.

"Wait," Henrogene said. "Maybe I can heal your friend---but it won't do much good. I might be able to undeepen the both of your wounds, but I cannot close them. Set him down for a moment. He is losing a lot of blood and is near dead."
Eodryn
07-19-2004, 11:15 AM
The feeling of utmost urgency weighed on Eodryn's shoulders as she rode further from the Golden Hall. She took the same path the Rider's had taken and when she came across their war-camp she halted. Nothing was left there as she hurried through the abandoned tents. The fires had been left to smolder, which by Eodryn's telling, meant that they had left in a hurry. All supplies were left, but every single battlearm and shield was taken. Even the purley decorative helm's had been ripped from the royal tent as the Riders prepared for the onslaught.
As she came to the borders of the camp something eeiry tugged at the edge of her senses. It seemed that she was being watched, but she could not see anyone.
((Here is an opening for someone else from Rohan...if they want to join right now...))

"Perhaps you were not aware," Rowen said breathlessly. "There is an army outnumbering us a thousand to one, who I am sure can find us, seeing as one did just a few moments ago. If you are going to help Byron, it is going to be when I am sure the soldiers out there aren't going to kill him anyway, okay?"
ieatglue44
07-19-2004, 04:22 PM
"You, m'lady, are unkind to those who are kind to you," said Henrogene.
Theredor sat up and looked at Rowen. He sighed, then smiled weakly. "That is the second time you have saved me, Henrogene," he said. Then he turned to Rowen. "I am glad you are ok."
Rowenna
07-19-2004, 05:12 PM
"You misinterpreted what I said," she spoke to Henrogene. "I don't want him to die, ergo I want to get him into a place where we don't invite whoever the hell is trying to kill us. Is that so difficult to understand?"
ieatglue44

"No, but you need not be so harsh in saying it," answered Henrogene.
Rowenna
07-20-2004, 04:25 PM
"In that case, can you help me out here," Rowen said, nodding to Byron - she was having a hell of a time getting anywhere with him in such a state, let alone anywhere fast. She had long since concluded that Byron's incoherent mumblings were not a good sign - there was no way in hell she was going to let it end like this.
ieatglue44
07-20-2004, 05:43 PM
"How may I be of assisstance?" Henrogene asked, bowing slightly.

Rowenna
07-20-2004, 06:12 PM
And that is what she got for trusting someone, even for a second.
"What the - d*mn it!"
She didn't trust that he would be coming back - she didn't even trust Byron, so why in bloody hell would she believe Henrogene?
She cursed loudly, running her bloodstained hands through her hair.

07-20-2004, 06:16 PM
"Don't ya werry," said Theredor, in his gruff, but kind, manner. "'E'll be back. 'E's very valiant and honorable. That Byron o' yers is too, for holdin' in fer so long and losin' so much blood."
Rowenna
07-20-2004, 06:31 PM
"Don't tell me when I can and can't worry," Rowen replied darkly. She didn't know where in hell her half-dead apprentice was, meanwhile, some legion wanted them all exterminated - as Byron put it, she was scared out of her own bloody mind.

She turned to both of them.
"What are we going to do now?"
Eodryn
07-21-2004, 01:46 PM
Eodryn rode hard along the path to the battlefield. She could smell the carnage before it came into view, but when it did, Eodryn could taste the bile that rose up in her mouth. She got off Haled, and ran to the outlying bodies. She forced her legs to take each step, and choked down the urge to vomit.
Across the wide flat plain she saw the wreckage of the battle, the ground was covered with bodies, the ground wasn't to be seen for the whole expanse. Eodryn fell to her knees and she couldn't hold back anymore. She got sick next to the field and when she regained her herself, she heard the unmissable sound of a marching army. She jumped to her feet and dragged Haled by his riegns to the outcropping trees that were sparse next to the beginnings of Fangorn.
The cover was bad and Eodryn knew it. She searched the surrounding area desperately, looking for a better cover. She then heard another voice, then two, maybe three seperate distinct voices. They were much closer than the army. Eodryn peered from where they came from, and debated whether or not to call out.
Rowenna
07-21-2004, 05:27 PM
"I'm talking to you, god d*mnit," Rowen growled. "Assuming you actually have an interest in surviving the next few moments, what in hell do you suggest we do now? I am long past apathy, and fast approaching homicide - are you any farther along than I am, or am I the only one interested in leaving with my head attached to my shoulders?!"
ieatglue44
07-21-2004, 06:29 PM
Theredor became very angry. "Do not become 'eated (heated) with me! Trust me, you do not want to begin a row with me! My 'eight (believe it or not) would give me an advantage!" He calmed down. "Listen, I am tryin' to be kind. I'm tryin' to be nice to ya, but it seems like it won' work. Whether we are friends, or not, we 'ave to face this new evil together...For those 'oom (whom) we love. I saved yer life, and I do not think yer in any place to become ' 'omicidal'!" He looked at the army, still standing their ground. What were they waiting for? He wondered.
(((Rowen is an elf, right?)))

"And who said I was talking to you," she said through her teeth. Okay, perhaps she was, but the question was more directed to both Saphire and Theredor. She was seriously in no mood to hear him retaliate. "Nevertheless, I want an answer."
ieatglue44
07-21-2004, 06:42 PM
"I don' know," he sighed. "All we can do is hope fer the best, because when that army charges, nobody 'ere knows what'll 'appen." He frowned.
Rowenna
07-21-2004, 07:18 PM
"What about you, Saphire," she seized the fronts of his clothing. "Ways in, ways out, c'mon, you found a way out of the battle, surely you can get us out of here without getting us all killed."

07-21-2004, 07:24 PM
Lerris sighed heavily, he had nothing. "I don't know Rowen..." Muttered the elf as he put his hand over hers, "Now if you could remove your hands from my shirt.." He said raising and eyebrow.
Rowenna
07-21-2004, 07:35 PM
Rowen tore away, before running her fingers through her hair, a look of panic on her face.
"We've gotta get out of here, you know that, right," she said, looking up at him. It was, however, painfully obvious already.
Eodryn

Eodryn who could hear but still couldn't see the group of survivors. Their debate seemed arguementative, but when the woman moved Eodryn finally caught sight of them. She could tell by their battle armor that they were not from the army that was approaching them. Eodryn ducked and ran close to the ground, dragging a complacent Haled behind her.
When she was in clear view of the group she stood. In a hushed voice she introduced herself. "Hello, I mean no harm here. My name is Eodryn Thilenden. If you are looking for a place to hide from this army I know where Rohan camped the night before. If we can make it there without being seen, then I can get us into my country safely. I don't care who you fought for, it doesn't matter now. Both sides are massacred."
ieatglue44

07-22-2004, 01:13 PM
"It's the best we've got," Rowen said darkly - partially to spite the dwarf, but mostly because there was literally no other choice. Say the stranger stabbed them in the back? She could fight back, she knew that. Byron couldn't, and she was going to kill the elf that took him when she found him again.
Eodryn
07-22-2004, 02:27 PM
"I am from Rohan. I traveled from the Golden Hall to get word of how the battle was faring. I came to late." Eodryn paused to regain her composure. "I now how to get to the camp. I have a horse if you want to put the injured one on it. Follow me." Eodryn motioned with her hand and she turned around. She bent low to the ground and began to run as quickly as she could back toward the encampment.

Rowenna

"What does it matter," Rowen yelled in a more desperate voice than she intended. "Gondor, Rohan, Isendgard, who cares?! We're all going to die anyway.."
As Rowen looked up at the approaching army, one of them shot an arrow, missing her, and landing in the ground beside her.
"Ah hell," she muttered under her breath.

Did the fool think he stood a change against an entire army?
"C'mon, Byron," Rowen said, heaving him up. He was wounded badly - d*mn, if they only had a horse. That seemed near impossible at the moment.

The whole army halted for a moment. Theredor decided to run back as fast as possible. He ran over to Rowen, defending her, whether she had tried to kill him or not.

"d*mn it, do you or don't you know where I can take him?"
The sounds of the legion were loud in her ears.
"Never mind," she growled, riding away, into the wood. She made the false assumption she was safe, and stopped. Her pulse was racing as she nervously looked about.

"Can we get a move on," Rowen said, getting on her feet, supporting Byron wearily. They had to leave... if they didn't, it didn't matter if Byron braved the storm, they'd all be dead anyway.

07-19-2004, 05:12 PM
